Black Bun
When my husband Andrew tasted this rich, thick blend of fruits, sugar and spices, his eyes sparkled and he said – “this brings back memories.” One of the Scottish traditions is eating black bun on Hogmanay when visiting friends, family and neighbors. As a visitor, you should bring food, fuel and drink – the classic food is Black Bun, the drink, Scotch, and fuel could be a lump of coal or some wood for the fire.
Packed between the top and bottom crust is more currants and sultanas than you ever thought possible. Two inches thick, so slice it thin! One slice will fill you up (and allow you to keep drinking!). Made by an historic Scottish bakery, Alex Dalgetty. 16 ounce bun serves 6-8.
